This year, once again, Jalcon’s dedication to top quality design, workmanship and finish has been recognised within the industry at the 2011 Registered Master Builders House of the Year competition.  House of Year is an event everyone in the industry looks forward to and the team here at Jalcon is no exception. We’ve been entering since 1998 with a total of 41 awards to date. 

This time around we came home with one gold award, two silver awards and one bronze wards. These awards recognise the full-bore commitment of the entire Jalcon team, our sub-contractors and suppliers, and the uncompromised effort that goes into each and every Jalcon home.

Category 3: New Homes $350,000 – $450,000

Glendowie(Central Auckland) – Gold

This was a great example of a service Jalcon is very proud to excel at: Remove and Rebuild. We are so thrilled with this house – and of course the win – that we are going to dedicate an entire blog entry to it this week.

 This gorgeous family home was designed to deliver for all members of the family from the teenage daughters downstairs, to the parent’s private ‘time out’ room.  A stunning road presence finishes a home built with lots of love to ensure all the family have their space and living rooms to enjoy.

This family had very strong ideas on how they wanted this home to work for them, with sound proofing for their family/music room and special walls for their amazing art collection. It ticked all of those boxes and delivered on all the normal criteria for a great family home and we think the best word for this stunning family home is perfection.

The Boathouse, our latest show home at Silverdale, was designed with ‘living by the water’ in mind.  Jalcon Homes always prides itself in building unique homes and our show homes are a way of showcasing our scope and range.  This one has been built to a very high standard and some people may find our design and deco a little bit “risque”.  Why not come and check it out and see what medal you would give it?

Here at Jalcon we think all our homes deserve a gold medal but of course we could be biased and we are very proud of what we have achieved.

Alongside our clients we put a lot of effort into our entries.  A massive amount of time – not to mention a fair bit of blood, sweat and tears - goes into cleaning, polishing, tidying, gardening and landscaping in preparation for the judges inspection.  We are very proud that all Jalcon Homes are a family affair.  Our clients are involved in every step of the process from the initial discussion, floor plans, design, siting, construction, materials, interior and exterior colours and finish through to workflow.

One of the highlights on the building industry calendar is the annual Master Builders’ House of the Year awards coming up toward the end of this month.  For us the process  begins right back in January when we decide which homes we’re going to enter – a difficult task in itself.  Then there’s the round of judging and inspections and note-taking which take us right up to award night.  Jalcon has  five homes entered this year, four which are owned by our customers and one of our showhomes.  We’ve been entering since 1998 with a total of 30 awards to date.  This year we’re hoping to make a clean sweep with five out of five.

One of the reasons we’re so confident is the massive amount of effort that our customers put into making their homes look incredible.  And we’re not just talking about the hours of cleaning, polishing, tidying, gardening and landscaping in preparation for the judges inspection.   From the very first stages a Jalcon Home is always a family affair.  From the initial discussion on general spec., floorplans, design, sitting, construction, materials, interior and exterior colours and finish through to workflow our customers are involved all the way, and often so are the members of the family.  We’ve even had the nephew of one of our customers nephew help build us to her house!  Having a great relationship with our customers makes an award-winning home that much easier.

Typically customers come to us because they know we a re a family owned company, and that gives them all kinds of assurances.  They’re comfortable that we can relate completely to their needs as a family and to their anxieties about launching into such a massive project.  They can also be secure in knowing that their investment is safe and that their builder isn’t going to disappear leaving them out of pocket.   Added to that, our customers get the peace of mind from knowing that their homes are protected by Jalcon’s very own 15-Year Weather-tight warranty.  In the face of a growing “leaky home industry” no family can afford to take this lightly.  We certainly don’t.

The award process is also a family affair for our customers.  For one of entries in Dannemora the whole family, Mum, Dad and the kids rolled up their sleeves and got stuck right in.  On the day of judging they could barely contain their excitement.  The owner told us “Jalcon Homes did such a great job for us building us a new home; it is now our turn to do a great job presenting our home in this competition”.   Praise like that means a heck of a lot to us and it’s the reason we do what we do.  We think they’re already winners, but we won’t know the judges’ opinions until award night, Saturday 21^st August.  Watch this space, and our website for results!

When we saw that leaky homes were going to become a huge problem we made the promise that we would not be contributing to it.  We stepped up with a 15 year weather-tight warranty as a personally signed assurance.  If any home built by us shows signs of a leak within 15 years, we fix it at our expense.

Some people may wonder what’s to stop us from doing the same as the “fly-by-nighters”, taking the money, building bad and doing a runner?  Well, quite simply we don’t want to.  We’ve never been interested in running or hiding from our work.  We’re far too pleased with our homes and so our customers.  And just like our customers’ homes, our company is family owned.  Standing by our work means standing by our good name.

In almost twenty years Jalcon Homes has never a single claim against our Master Builders’ guarantee.  We haven’t had a leaky home yet and we certainly don’t plan to.  At Jalcon we guarantee that every care is taken to keep the dry on the inside and the winter wet on the outside.  So, whether you’re building or buying, make sure you do the same!
